52 stops, 4 manuals and a successful combination of Baroque, Romantic and Neo-Baroque sounds.
This instrument, important in the French organ world, has had an eventful history. The first instrument was built by Jean-Baptiste Waltrin. In the 19th century it was rebuilt and enlarged twice by the Callinet family. After further rebuilding, 2/3 of the historic stops and the case remained. Most recently, in 1971 the organ was extensively reconstructed by Curt Schwenkedel, and has been played ever since by the Organist, Jean-Charles Ablitzer, regularly being heard in concert.
In addition to cleaning and repairs, some stops have now been reorganised and the instrument slightly revoiced, but its main features have remained unchanged. This work was carried out in collaboration with Marco Venegoni (metal pipes) and Jean-Marie Tricoteaux (voicing).
Schwenkedel's concept and work still stand up today, and enable the different periods of construction to be united in a harmonious manner.
