    Protestant church Waseda

    Tokio (JP)

Inspired by the sound of Gottfried Silbermann-organs of Saxony, realized as a free interpretation concerning the stoplist, esthetic and voicing

After a long period of preparation and planning, the new organ for the Waseda Church in Tokyo was ceremoniously dedicated on 3 February 2019. Owing to its varied timbres, its placement and the good acoustics in the church, the organ is particularly well-suited to chamber music. This is also indicated by the absence of a Mixture and the addition of a Traverse Flute and a 16' Manual Bourdon.
Together with the Organist, Hitoshi Mizuno, a specification based on the organs of Gottfried Silbermann was developed. The scaling and voicing are also based on this type of organ.
All pipes are arranged on one level on the combined manual and pedal windchest. The direct, suspended action and the wedge bellows emphasise the Baroque character of the organ. The organ case is oiled and waxed. The pipe shades are covered with gold leaf. To protect against earthquake damage, the instrument is firmly anchored to the building.
